Notary of the Month - Violet O'Brien

Violet L. O’Brien is a licensed Notary Public for the State of Texas, operating as an independent mobile notary/signing agent in Houston since 2003 and covers the 650 square miles of the city of Houston as well as the surrounding 13-county Houston-Galveston area.

I worked for a title company and as a legal secretary early in my career, so that experience has really helped when handling real estate loan closings, which is a large percentage of my work. I do my best to send back flawless documents, but if I make a mistake, I admit it, fix it quickly, and move on. I’ve worked with folks who are unable to admit fault and they waste a lot of everyone’s time. Clients will forgive your mistakes if they know they can count on you to act professional and just fix them.

On a personal note, I have three great kids, ages 13, 10, and 9. They’re able to stay on their own now, but early on we had a mini-theater in my Suburban and they came with me on countless assignments. We still like traveling and movies and their first question after school is always, “Do you have any more closings today, Mom?”

I’ve already told my 13-year old I’ll hire her as my driver when she gets her license in a few years. I drive an average of about 800-1000 miles a week. To keep my brain engaged during all those hours on the road, I listen to books on CD. Sometimes, if the book is at a really good part, I don’t answer the phone. Then, of course, I get a text or email. I’m not complaining though. I enjoy my work. My only regret is that I meet a lot of interesting people, but only for a very short time.
